About the project
Kartel, a bar and restaurant in Amsterdam, wanted to elevate its brand identity to align with its shift towards refined international cuisine and cocktails. The previous branding was too sparse, which didn't suite the evolving vision. The goal was to, eventually, serve more refined food, translating to all sorts of exciting dishes from around the world. Next to that, they really wanted to delve deeper into the world of cocktails.
The new visual identity was crafted to embody this blend of sophistication and local atmosphere. A sleek, modern logo was designed, accompanied by the tagline “Worldly cuisine, local moods,” which captured the essence of Kartel’s offering. This fresh identity emphasized its commitment to providing an upscale dining experience with international appeal, while maintaining strong connections to the Amsterdam locale.

The why
The voice, and tone of Kartel, needed a sense of something universal; a language that could describe the intimate, and beautiful moments, that can only be shared during certain, precious occasions. "There's something special about gathering around a table with friends and family to share a meal, stories, and laughter."
To create a design that made both food and drinks prominent, I created two hand-drawn visuals, representing the breaking of bread, and the classiness that revolves around cocktails. That way, food and drinks, could both take up their rightful place, and be enjoyed in hamony.
